Done deal ! Thank you.

".75 & 1.5 wt."
Can you give a brief explanation of the functional differences between the two weights. So I can understand which to choose.
Thanks for the help.

The lighter ones .75 react to lighter winds but in hvy wind they get excited.
The heavier 1.5 lay low in light winds but maintain a stiffer appearance in higher winds.

I truly think it's what you get use to (learn).
A hard wind is gonna make either stand straight out.

The guys around the lakes and out west favor the hvy ones. Around here in the south the light ones are favored. Some get a set of both and choose which to use at the time.

Mike, I’m fairly new to trying to read the wind, but I have a question. The tails that came with my wind flags are just nylon streamers, is there an added benefit to the tails you sell? Also, I’m using the smaller rimfire type of wind flag if that matters.

Thanks, Charlie

Johnny Mayo is the guy that builds and sells the sail tails...but since my name is Mike, I have an opinion to share with you.
I am fairly new to rimfire benchrest myself. This year will be my third. I have watched other wind flags during the shoots I have attended.
The tails that came with your (and my) flags 'flap and wiggle' quite a bit in the breeze. The advantage I see in the stiff sail tails is that they show a more linear/quiet progression in the speed/force of the wind. Sails tails are quite stiff; formed into a U shape; and you need to store them in a round tube when not in use. I have not used them (yet) myself, but I have just recently ordered a set of 6 from Johnny. He is very responsive and easy to work with.

@mikemcallister thanks for the info and sorry about the mix up.

@haveme1 please see post #11 I don’t know why I called you Mike in my first post, sorry.
Hello @MS Guy , are you from Mississippi?
I am originally from Star MS.
I got my bench rest start shooting ARA using the "kenny flags" killoughs sold. Dan use to make his sail tails 3x27"
That's what mine are copied from. So i do know the single vein flags work great with them. Cut them to desired length if they are dragging the ground.
I do not have experience with the double vein flags. Maybe someone can give their experience on that.

Hello Johnny,

When I run my dual vane flags they are run with 2 x 18 tails.
Seem to work out just fine.

I cut some.75 into 1" and walked outside. The ridgidness just wasn't there it flapped around like survey or tape. It would have to be a couple inches at least to maintain the curve which gives it the riggedness.
As you see it comes on a roll. They have memory of this curve. Optimal two and a half to 3 in is ideal for it to use the memory that it has to stay rigid.17071584104662842351197695206259.jpg

I’m not originally from MS, I retired here along the Gulf Coast. I did a 3 year tour in Gulfport and liked the area so much that when I was going to retire they told me they’d move me anywhere in the country, I chose MS. It’s probably one of the best states to retire to, inexpensive living, not crowded, no traffic, low crime, etc. but shhhh, don’t tell anyone.

Mr Bill,
What weight did you get, .75 or 1.5?
Hey Jerry,

I bought the .75 oz as i thought the 1.5 would be too stiff. The PVC tube I'm using to store them in keeps the right amount of bow even when the tails are hanging vertical/no wind. I may change over to the key ring instead of the zip tie that Matt uses.
