Bedding Issue?

Just my 2 cents but I'd get rid of or as close as possible, that center screw, if it's not absolutely necessary, I never even use it if I can get by without it. It can only hurt...can't help anything IMHO. Yes, you might be able to tune with it a little bit but that in itself tells you something is wrong. I just don't see it as necessary on most actions and a good place for trouble to happen. It can't cause trouble if'n it's not there. ;)
I tested the gun today with all 3 screws tight and with the middle screw loose. I gained about 100 points on an ARA target with the middle screw loose. I will be shooting a match Saturday, I will let you know how it goes.

@Sadshot , can you please post pictures of your dial indicator setup with the rifle? i want to repeat your test at home with mine.thanks
It is made from a Super Clamp (photography gear) and a other photography bits that amount to some aluminum angle. The dial indicator is through bolted to the angle from the back. It works well but it would be easier and cheaper to buy the ebay rig listed in this thread.

I shot an ARA match in SC Saturday. I started great at 2350 12x. The scores went down from there, ending in the 1875 range. I'm going to have to consider getting it rebedded.

On the final target, as a last ditch effort, I loosened the middle screw to finger tight. That made it worse. I have another match Saturday. I plan to torque test this week and just go with the best setting on Saturday. If that does not fix the issue, I will call Dan K and Randy O to see what to do.

If I have the action torqued at 30, the center screw gives me more like .002" deflection at the end of the stock. Higher torque reduces the deflection caused by the middle screw but does not eliminate it.

I am not 100 percent certain that this is causing the issue yet. I am just trying to rule it in or out right now.

The day did get warmer as we shot at the last match so heat was a variable. I don't think it was heat/ammo related as other shooters with the same ammo stayed consistent. While it could be me, I was experiencing split groups/vertical stringing. That "feels" like a result of the deflection. But I just have not figured it out with any certainty yet.

I am certain that loosening the middle screw had a negative effect.

Attached are the cards I shot, in order. They were shot 90 degrees, CCW.

If you didn't fool with the screws from target to target, why would you think this is the issue. Give me a call at 214-773-9010 if you want. I developed the bedding system that the Rotex stocks use and am a believer in the middle screw. All of this depends on the bedding being correct. There is a procedure I use to check the bedding using the screws I can go over with you. Too damn much to type it all out.

I had a great conversation with Jerry, and we went through his process of checking the action screws and bedding. I went with his recommendation for torque and cleaning. I am happy to report that I won our local, unaffiliated match and came in 4th at the ARA match at Green Sea. My scores are at least relatively consistent now. Now, I am on the hunt for better ammo.

I have a vudoo v22s ROTEX stock done by RAndy and it uses 2 screws. If you and Randy use 3 screws why did Randy set mine up with 2? The vudoo could have been 2 or 3 depending on trigger guard. Mine likes 45”/#’s, set front screw first then rear.

On the Vudoo V22S, the location of the middle screw is in an odd place, the only trigger guard made that will fit is the PRO-X guard. Normally the guard made for the Rem. ADL is the most commonly used which will not match the location of the V22S action screws.

Evelio do you use 2 or 3 on your vudoo’s? What torque do you use with 2 screws? What torque do you use with 3 screw‘s In wood or laminated stocks like the ROTEX?

On 4 builds including mine I used all 3 screws with the PRO-X trigger guard, on the others I only used two screws, could not get the PRO-X guard in time.
I used around 35 inch/lbs. regardless of how many screws are used.

Did it make any difference with accuracy?
I don't want to highjack this thread by talking about the Vudoo, if you want to continue this conversation, you can PM me or emailed at my full name @ gmail.com
To answer your question, I really could not see any discernable difference between the two while shooting groups, but I never shot a full ARA card with any of them except mine.
